In a dramatic turn of events that has captured public attention, Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Member of Parliament for Karaga and immediate past Minister for Finance, has taken legal steps against Radio Tamale 91.7 FM and two of its panelists. The move comes after what his lawyers describe as “false, malicious and defamatory” allegations aired on the station’s Bugum Beni Drive programme on March 30, 2026.
According to a formal demand notice signed by Solicitor Sylvester Isang Esq. of Isang a Law Chambers, the MP is challenging claims made by panelists Rashid Yakubu, alias Nanton Doha Naa, and Mohammed Bondirigbum Mahamadu. The two allegedly stated on air that Dr. Amin Adam had purchased a lion for one million dollars and was keeping it at his residence on Airport Road in Tamale. They further alleged that the lion was fed daily with cow legs and that visitors to the home faced unusual security measures.
The legal team argues that these statements were made recklessly, without verification, and in violation of basic journalistic standards. They emphasize that Radio Tamale failed to contact their client before or during the broadcast to confirm the accuracy of the claims.
Dr. Amin Adam’s lawyers maintain that the allegations are entirely false and have caused serious damage to his reputation. The demand notice calls for a written, unqualified apology, a full retraction of the defamatory statements, and publication of the apology through the same medium used to air the claims. It also demands an immediate halt to any further defamatory publications.
The notice gives Radio Tamale and the panelists five days, inclusive of the date of service, to comply. Failure to do so, the letter warns, will result in legal proceedings to vindicate the MP’s rights.
The Official Demand Notice states:
