Tiyumba Africa: image of Shaykh Dalhu Abdul Momeen and Mbie Ziblim

G(caps)ospel singer and media personality Mbie Ziblim has stirred conversation across Northern Ghana with a recent post that has drawn both praise and criticism. His remarks, centered on religious tolerance and his experiences with local Islamic leaders, have resonated with some readers while leaving others unsettled.

In his statement, Ziblim emphasized his identity as a Christian and a proud Dagban “dolodolo,” noting that his outsider status in intra-Muslim sectarian disputes allows him to speak objectively. He singled out Shaykh Dalhu Abdul Moomen as a figure of exceptional tolerance, describing him as “very intelligent and above all the most religiously tolerant Imam I have ever met.”

Ziblim recounted a personal encounter in which Shaykh Dalhu invited him to breakfast and encouraged him to say a Christian prayer before the meal. “In my 43 years of existence, I have never seen such a Muslim,” he wrote, contrasting this with what he described as dismissive attitudes from other Imams in Tamale.

He also criticized the tone of some sermons, suggesting that certain preachers focus more on denigrating rival sects or other faiths than on constructive teachings from the Qur’an. His comments, however, drew backlash from some readers who felt offended by his prayer and remarks.

In response, Ziblim offered an apology because in his early post, he said, “If I were to become a Muslim Today (God Forbid)” : “For those who were offended by my prayer said for myself, I humbly remove it and apologize to you individually. It was a prayer, not intended to denigrate anyone.” A lot felt offended when he added "God Forbid" to his post.

The post has sparked wider debate about interfaith relations in Northern Ghana, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities for dialogue across religious lines.

Some Few comments from readers;

I remember the number of times I have heard people refer to me as "chefira" when you are known to to be a Christian. Though not a Dagbana but I side with your post. . I understand your post. It is sad. Sometimes i ask my friends if Christianity is the only religion in the world aside Islam. Because the energy is always on Christianity. There was humanity before RELIGION. Let's treat each other with love. It pays. – Kampi Laari Robert

Mbie Ziblim this is a great observation and thanks for that, there ate instance the chiristians visited the prophet and he allowed them to even worship in his mosque some says closer to his mosque then afyer that they had their meeting...
You need to understand many has forgotten religion is build to enhance our human relation that is why you see it gives us morals.
May the good Lord always bless us to have a good character that worth emulation...
Thank you Mbieli – Rashid Alhassan
Inasmuch as I dislike Mbie Ziblim’s assertion, I agree with him. It would be a form of dishonesty to deny such claim.
The intolerant nature of those Muslims he sighted is borne out of Religious politics and Cultural inclinations. For them, ‘insulting’ and ‘degrading’ others is important in their bid to maintain relevance and dominance where they are.
However, what stands out for me is the fact that Mbie Ziblim still found a Muslim(Shaykh Dalhu) to admire. This should send a signal to Mbie David and others who share the same opinion that, the intolerance of some Muslim scholars is not an entire representation of Islam as a religion. Islam ☪️ is not a violent religion! some Muslims are. Islam ☪️ is not intolerant! Some Muslims are. Quran 5:5 teaches something about Muslim ties with Jews and Christians. – Mistta Diamond
