Tiyumba Africa's Verdict on "Zombie"
“Zombie” might sound confusing at first glance, but a full listen reveals the depth behind the lyrics. Daatey, one of Ghana’s fast-rising Trap/Afrobeats artists, makes a bold move by collaborating with Afrobeat heavyweight Kelvyn Boy.
Consider a part of the Lyrics:
"Who dey fake life is bana
Who dey broke pass is bana
Zero steeze is bana
ŋun leei bah'yoli nyaŋ zaa it's bana
Who dey sck d!cks is bana
Lame as f*ck is bana
Pay your bills you dey hate ŋam bana
To dey hate I go go cape sm*ke some cana
Cana cana
To dey hate I go go cape sm*ke some cana
Zombie zombie"
Analyzing the part where he said "Who dey fake life" and added "is bana"! In Dagbani, Mampruli, and some other Northern Ghanaian languages, "bana" means "them." So when they said in the song "Who dey fake life is bana," it’s both a question and an answer in one line. Other lines also contain "is bana," and they all answer the questions.
After watching the visualizer closely, it’s clear that director Jesse Philz put serious thought into the concept, just as he did with Daatey’s previous release, Afada Official Music Video.
